Lai Shengchuan is a playwright and director of Taiwan, China Province, China, and the founder of the Performance Workshop and Shangchang Theater. Formerly served as the Dean of the School of Drama at Taipei University of the Arts, Visiting Professor at Stanford University in the United States, and Resident Artist. Teacher Lai Shengchuan is a nostalgic person with a profound cultural heritage in his hometown of Huichang. In the 1980s, Lai Shengchuan and his family began to return to their hometown to search for roots. From their first acquaintance with a small town to seeing an old house, the story of the past here seems to be right in front of them. Lai Shengchuan said that if he brought a play home every year, what would happen to this small town? Since 2015, the seeds of drama have been quietly planted, and drama has begun to influence and change Huichang Town.

#2. Secret Love for Peach Blossom Land
Teacher Lai Shengchuan is trying his tricks to bring more people and promote better development in his hometown. On September 8, 2023, Teacher Lai Shengchuan and famous producer Teacher Ding Naizhu came to Huichang again to guide the tea picking theater in rehearsing the stage play "Secret Love for Peach Blossom Land" for the tea picking drama version. This version combines the characteristics of Gannan tea picking opera, integrating the "three wonders" of tea picking opera - short steps, single sleeves, and fan flowers. It uses instruments such as hooks, gongs, and drums as accompaniment, combining traditional Gannan characteristics with modern drama, creating a new collision.

Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land "tells a unique story:" Secret Love "and" Peach Blossom Land "are two unrelated crew members, both of whom have signed contracts with the theater for the night's rehearsal. The two sides are at odds and refuse to compromise. Due to the upcoming performance, they had to rehearse in the theater at the same time, thus achieving a stage spectacle that combines ancient and modern joys and sorrows.

#3 rehearsals revealed
During the rehearsal, Teacher Lai Shengchuan started with her own experience, narrated the background of the drama creation, shared methods and experiences, and led everyone to study the script together.

Director Xie Li of the Tea Picking Theater and Teacher Lai Shengchuan discuss issues such as roles, plot, and performance methods together, guiding actors to analyze character characteristics, understand the relationship between their roles and other characters, refine performance details, and allow actors to truly integrate into their characters, creating a more vivid character image.

Teacher Lai Shengchuan provides on-site guidance to help actors find the correct voice and intonation, stance, movements, tone, and facial expressions, in order to convey the character's personality and emotions.
