Huichang Drama Town is located in the south of Jiangnan, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, and is unique. The northwest street of Huichang County in the south of Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province is a scenic and secluded place with beautiful mountains and waters in the Gannan region. The small town is backed by Lanshan Mountain, with tributary water, Xiangjiang River, and Mianshui flowing through and converging, with lively creatures and lush greenery. The ancient city wall of the Southern Song Dynasty, which is nearly a kilometer long, guards the tranquility of the town. Through thousands of years of cultural migration and residence, a unique Hakka culture has been formed. The ancient houses and inscriptions of the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties record the dust and smoke of the past.
Lai Jiaqiu, the father of Chinese playwright Lai Shengchuan, was born here and went to the United States to work in diplomacy in 1947. However, he never expected to have the opportunity to return to his hometown after that. In the 1990s, Lai Sheng and his brother Lai Shengyu began their search for relatives in Huichang. As a result, the old residence of the Lai family was preserved, becoming the origin of Huichang Drama Town.
